Today we discuss the architects of KRADS studio's new project, a magnificent home built near to Lake Þingvallavatn in southwest Iceland.
Tina Dickow, a Danish singer-songwriter, and Helgi Jónsson, an Icelandic multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, commissioned the home and actively contributed to its realization with ideas that instantly complemented those of the architects.
As a consequence, the house is fully contemporary, with vast apertures framing the home's distinctive perspective of the Icelandic lake. The residence provides clear views of Lake Þingvallavatn and the Skjaldbreið mountain to the north. In the opposite way, there is a terrace looking southwest from which the mountains Jórutindur and Hátindur may be seen.
The home also appears to be in conversation with the surrounding nature, first and foremost because, owing to its grass and moss-covered roof, it blends in with the surrounding woodlands, becoming nearly invisible. Above importantly, since its concrete foundations are built in three staggered layers that follow the land's movement.
The beautiful finishes of the house round off the look. In fact, specific color palettes were chosen to outfit it, focusing emphasis on the vistas and creating a strong link with the surrounding environment.
A true fantasy project by the KRADS architectural studio, a residence where you can escape the turmoil and immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind ambiance just a few steps from the lake and surrounded by mountains.
