New Paltz Studio's Bold Combination From Modern And Japanese Material

The latest innovative architectural project from the AlexAllen Studio is located in New Paltz, New York.

This is a century-old single-family house created by John Bradgood, who was 70 at the time. For external demand, the transition entails using a T-111 board without a channel layer. The curtain wall does not require an emergency examination, but a new roof has been installed, and the mechanical system has been turned on. Experiment with simplicity, efficiency, and minimum upkeep.

Fiber cement board was chosen for the façade due of its minimal maintenance, long-lasting, and cost-effective qualities. This ancient Japanese wood Shou-Sugi-Ban preservation procedure burns the wood's surface to make it wind and weather resistant for a long period, requiring little maintenance. The house's window frame divides the cement slab in two, with the bottom side broader and the top side smaller; the window frame also denotes the house's second level.

To achieve total insulation, the AlexAllen studio extended the building's windows to the height of the studs, replaced the windows with three-layer glass, and installed a new small split air conditioner to replace the old skirting-style electric heater. The new outer wall also works as a wind and weather barrier, and the light-shielding panel that was just installed adds to the protection.

As a result of the redesign, the housing now has improved looks as well as performance. It effectively blends the present floor with the inside area, and it requires practically little care once completed.
