The three-story-high House in Senri, which was completed by Shogo Iwata Architects in 2010, has a total of eight tiered levels that are connected to one another by sets of four or five staircases at a time.
This house is intended for a family of three: a husband, a wife, and their son.
This little home has 8 levels of floor between the basement entry and the roof terrace in order to create every area not in a concentrated fashion by a large void but by a reciprocal relationship of each space.
This design ambiguizes the concept of the floor and makes the continuity of space consistent with the hierarchy of space.
Iwata used a steel framework to achieve this spatial constitution with a little gap.
He employs a transparent steel frame in 40mmx125mm flat bar to allow each space to flow freely.
The entrance is on the building's flank, protected by a cantilevered canopy.
