In Andes Mountains, the stone shelters are called "pircas" which built by the indigenous occupants. This Stone House by Estudio Alberto Tonconogy y Asociados is one of the highlight in the region.
Using this precedent, it was determined to fabricate the remains of "old" architecture that would justify using this implantation rather than another. A stone containing iron oxide was chosen, and from it a timeless refuge of oxidized corten steel developed.
The four facades were combined into eight to maximize the stunning aesthetics. To accomplish this, the program was divided into two buildings: one for social purposes and the other for bedrooms. A glass bridge connects these volumes.
The flexible structural system employed in this seismic zone is entirely constructed of pre-machined metal steel. The two volumes are supported by substantial concrete stalls. The whole roof, as well as the fixed and sliding walls, are covered with closing panels with maximum athermic properties.
The home is separated from all external services and operates on its own. Low usage, solar panels, grey water treatment and reuse all contribute to its environmentally friendly stance.
